This blog was inspired by the song "On My Way Here" by Ryan Tedder. In the chorus it says, "On my way here, where I am now, I've learned to fly you have to want to leave the ground. I've fallen hard, but I've been loved, and in the end it all works out. My faith has conqered fear, on my way here." I want to remember my falls, my faith and flight so I remember it here.

Neon Lights lyrics
Everyday theres a thousand things
that somehow pass us by
Go cut through the noise
So you can know what love sounds like
I'm comin' to your frequency
To 106 point me
So there's no
Distractions
Take a breath
Take it in
Love has no expiration date
My heart will always beat for you
At a constant rate
It will outlast everything
You think is set is stone
It goes on and on and on and on,
On and on and on and on...
Spastic like
Neon Lights
Can you feel my love?
Loud and clear
Pulls you near
Can you feel my love
We got all the memories
So much more we can see
Better than our first kiss
Snow falling at Christmas
Like sleeping in on Sunday
Laughter we never faked
Bob Marley in Summer
One love for each other
Oh it feels like...
Fireflies
Day and night
Can you feel my love?
Everyone is looking for a special connection
But its like your compass points
A million directions
Do you need me to buy you
A telescope so you can see
How good
This could be
Spastic like
Neon Lights
Can you feel my love?
Loud and clear
Pulls you near
Can you feel me love?
Oh!
We got all the memories
So much more we can see
Better than our first kiss
Snow falling at Christmas
Like sleeping in on Sunday
Laughter we never faked
Bob Marley in Summer
One love for each other
Oh it feels like...
Fireflies
Day and night
Can you feel my love?
(Can you feel it?)
And I'll wait for you
As long as it takes
Until I get through
And it hits you right in the face
Can you feel my lo-o-ove?
Can you feel my love?
We got all the memories
So much more we can see
Better than our first kiss
Snow falling at Christmas
Like sleeping in on Sunday
Laughter we never faked
Bob Marley in Summer
One love for each other
Oh it feels like...
(One love for each other...)
Spastic like
Neon Lights
Can you feel my love?
Fireflies
Day and night
Can you feel my love???

I am going to tidy up my room. Then I am going to get started on my Micro-Exam for chem and work on that till Robin gets back from running. Then we are going to the creamery for lunch before she goes on her field trip. At that point I am picking up shelbs and we are going to beat our faces in at the computer lab....once we decide to give up on that I will come back and continue to work on my Micro-Exam until my Rhett is done with his stuffs.
At that point we will party for the night :)

Nerd Fest
So to the right is a quick look at my new life. I have recently added mineralogy and chemistry to my schedule. I was kinda freaking out because they're like the death classes in my major. And did I mention I decided to take them concurrently?? Ya I'm crazy.
I am taking these classes with my friends so that's a plus. Studying all together is almost as good as hanging out....almost.
It's so weird, but it's actually been OK. I finished all my hw today at 5. How? I don't even know. But all I can say is I am awesome.
Something else that is weird and awesome...I kinda love these classes. They're a challenge, which I like. And I finally feel (after taking field studies) that I have something to work towards. A lack of motivation has been a serious issue for me since coming to college. It all feels sooo exciting now. I am pumped to learn. Even the hard things.
I just feel so blessed to be at such an amazing university with incredible professors, TAs and classmates. Learning is awesome. Just awesome.

Most Beautiful Creation

So today is Fast Sunday. I love these days. They are the one day in the month where I get to truly reflect on my life and think about my blessings, my trials, and changes I want to make in my life.
I have been thinking a lot recently about how I know God loves me. I don't think it was a coincidence when today's lesson in Relief Society was on Uchtdorf's talk from a few conferences ago about our love for God, for ourselves and those around us. I was really thinking about what specifically makes me love my Heavenly Father and what makes me know he loves me. A certain experience came to mind that I can't get out of my head so I figured I would share it here, because it applies to all these different situations.
My very first semester at BYU I was in a geology class. My first day of this class was life changing. Not only did I decide that I want to spend the rest of my life studying geology, but I gained a new perspective on my life that I have been able to draw upon again and again for strength and I was reminded of it just these past few weeks and especially today.
We were hiking in Rock Canyon and it was over 100 degrees that day. I was so tired because we were hiking for 6 hours, and I didn't have enough water and so I was getting a little grumpy. We made it to a peak and we finally had more than 2 minutes to sit down. My teacher stood in front of us and he asked us what we see. Lots of kids tried to incorporate the things we just learned into their comments talking about faulting and various rock types but all I could think of was that I could see my dorm and the temple. My attitude instantly changed. I sat and pondered about the temple and how it does stand out in the valley and how when we go there we can stand out and be made better. Then my teacher gets up and he said, "I appreciate all your comments, and now I would like to share with you what I see. I see God." He then paused for a moment and went on to say the one thing that I needed to hear most at that time. Something that has stuck with me and brought me so much peace and strength. He said, "One thing that I love about this field of study is the chance to learn about God. Look at this earth around you. Think about the processes we've discussed and everything that you can see. It is real, and it comes from a very real God. His creations are as endless as he is. One cannot look at all the things God has created and not know that he exists and that he loves his children. Look at the marvelous gift he has given us! But, of all of these creations. Of all the time and importance that exists in this earth and universe...they are nothing without you. Of all God's creations, you are his most precious, and by far the most beautiful." That moment changed my life forever. So as I was thinking about this experience today in Relief Society I realized a few things about these different kinds of love.
I know God loves me because he has given me this earth. This earth reminds me of his power and his awareness for all living things. For this reason I cannot doubt that he does everything for us, but more specifically for me. When I think of this earth I begin to think of the eternities and I am astounded by how endless God is and then to think that I am one of God's greatest creations?? I just know he loves me.
I can learn to love myself because if I am a child of God,I know I am. That makes me awesome. What's not to love?! We are divine beings! Once I realized how incredible of a creation humankind really is, I can't help but be grateful for everything I am and everything I have the ability to become. I am a daughter of God. I know that. Because I know who I am and my potential I know God loves me and his love for me teaches me how to love myself.
Again, in knowing that we are God's most excellent creation I can't help but love others. I can see the people around me as children of God. I can try harder to look at them as he would and with love. I can learn to be slower to judge, because God loves each of his children equally, the good and the bad.
So in all this nonsense I am trying to say that we are God's greatest most divine creations. With this knowledge we can understand his love for us and all his creations. His love is great enough for all those who seek it and he wants you to feel that love. He wants us to love ourselves because every time we think little of ourselves or others it hurts him. Let us try a little harder to spare our Heavenly Father that pain. Let us try harder to see God in all things. Especially in ourselves. I love my Heavenly Father. I am grateful for his love and for this Gospel. I am so grateful for all of my many, many blessings and the knowledge that I have as a child of God.

barrel of love

Sunday, July 24, 2011
a girl after my own heart
When the rain
Is blowing in your face
And the whole world
Is on your case
I could offer you
A warm embrace
To make you feel my love
When the evening shadows
And the stars appear
And there is no one there
To dry your tears
I could hold you
For a million years
To make you feel my love
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/a/adele/make_you_feel_my_love.html ]
I know you
Haven't made
Your mind up yet
But I would never
Do you wrong
I've known it
From the moment
That we met
No doubt in my mind
Where you belong
I'd go hungry
I'd go black and blue
I'd go crawling
Down the avenue
No, there's nothing
That I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love
The storms are raging
On the rolling sea
And on the highway of regret
Though winds of change
Are blowing wild and free
You ain't seen nothing
Like me yet
I could make you happy
Make your dreams come true
Nothing that I wouldn't do
Go to the ends
Of the Earth for you
To make you feel my love

the things my daddy taught
Some things really stick out to me this day as we celebrate how much we love our fathers. To my own daddy:
1. The value of hard work-my dad is probably the hardest working person I know. He is always, and I mean always, problem-solving. He knows how to fix everything and even if he doesn't he figures it out. Through many nights of calculus homework, he taught me about how to figure things out and work through them and try all possibilities before giving up.
2. The value of a good laugh- my dad can be pretty serious but he definitely knows how to laugh. He has taught me that it is important to laugh at little things to help you get through what may be hard. I can't think of a dinner where we didn't all end up hysterically laughing at some random thing...and it was usually because of him. He has taught me how to laugh things off, which has got me through lots of insecurities and bad days.
3. The value of a loving, happy home-Coming to college has made me realized just how blessed I am to have parents and especially a father who supports me and makes sure our home is a good place. I miss my family terribly and I know it's because my father made my home a place of safety and love.
4. The value of the priesthood-No one honors their priesthood like my father. He has such a strong testimony of the gospel and he is so humble. His example has blessed me in countless ways.
5. The value of quality time-I love spending time with my family. As annoying as it used to be, I am so grateful that my dad took the time to make sure we all spent time together. I look back at those memories and if I close my eyes for long enough I can sometimes get lost in a nostalgic haze. I long for those times now.
6. The value of marriage- I hope with all my heart to one day love someone as much as my parents love each other. My mom always tells me the cute things she loves about my dad and I gag a little, but it is pretty cute. My dad is a wonderful man and part of all that wonder comes from being an outstanding husband.
7. The value of values-My dad taught me my whole life through his example. I discussed this with one of my roommates how I don't remember being punished much as a child and I know it's because my parents taught me a righteous way of living...choosing the wrong never even seemed like an option. Thank you dad for teaching me to choose the right.
I love you so much daddy, I couldn't ask for a better father!
Love,
Peep

addiction
1. I can't get enough of that capri sun. I always wanted to buy them when I was living with Brynn but she helped me to realize I don't need them. Well I got some from Phil for my B-day and drank all of them in less than a week. I have like 3 a day I swear. I bought myself a new box because I love them so much.
2. I also noticed recently that I subconsciously match my underwear to my outfit. It's turned into like a game now. I can't wear something unless my underwear matches. It's kinda really weird, and I know this...yet I still can't help myself.
3. Flossing. I go through these phases where I am really good about it because my dentist told me....but this time I actually enjoy it and do it every day.
Moral of the story:
Marissa has problems.....I creep myself out.

Peace
The scars of your love remind me of us,They keep me thinking that we almost had it all,The scars of your love, they leave me breathless,I can't help feeling,We could have had it all,(You're gonna wish you never had met me),Rolling in the deep,(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),You had my heart inside of your hand,(You're gonna wish you never had met me),And you played it to the beat,(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),and thenNevermind, I'll find someone like you,I wish nothing but the best for you, too,Don't forget me, I beg,I remember you said,"Sometimes it lasts in love,But sometimes it hurts instead,"Sometimes it lasts in love,But sometimes it hurts instead, yeah,

A million and a half things
My favorite class this semester was definitely Geology of the Planets. It was seriously so interesting and I was captivated every single class. I actually asked people to stop texting me for that one...I told them I had to listen but really I wanted to sooo bad. The solar system is incredible and it's beauty truly testifies of a supreme being.

Happy Earth Day yesterday :)
Another class that was not my favorite surprisingly, was Historical Geology. But geology has given me a much stronger testimony so we're going to give it a shout out anyway and take a look at what captivating things the earth has for us to study regardless of how much I hated that class

So besides some really pretty pictures there is a point to all this. I think the best way to sum it up is this:
Alma 30:44 "all things denote there is a God; yea, even the earth, and all things that are upon the face of it, yea, and its motion, yea, and also all the planets which move in their regular form do witness that there is a Supreme Creator."
