I thought I might update the public about what it is like to be a nanny for 2 boy geniuses.
Patrick (6) the other day on our walk to soccer was telling me alll about his favorite flower--gerber daisies-- (just so happens they are my favorite flower too!)
Well as it would turn out hydrangeas are also a very pretty flower (especially the blue ones) but their scent is not as strong as gerber daisies. There is a flower that has a better scent than both of them, but he can't remember the name. Luckily we passed by one of them on the way home so we could stop and smell it! He also asked me about this curious leaf we saw. He saw one like it before and figured they were probably a related species.
Oh and his favorite color is magenta....does this worry anyone else?
A few days after that he was showing me all of his MANY star wars ships, where their guns are, telling me about how powerful they are etc. He really likes this one ship...of course I can't remember the name...anyway, he really likes it because it's very maneuverable and when it fires, it's basically a cartwheel of bullets!
Gavin (9) told me yesterday that we should set up bank accounts for cows. No I am not even kidding you. He said that since we use their milk they should get money put in an account to pay them for their services. Without laughing (serious skill) I asked him what a cow would do with money. I got him there! He said well their owners would use the money for the cows to have better grains and living conditions. I didn't have the guts to tell him that cows eat their own poop and roll in it, and could probably care less if they have whole grains or recycled grains.
Smart kids. That's for sure.

3737 Legation....Washington DC
We finally made it to DC. We even figured out that we live in DC, not Maryland. Anyway, We both started work yesterday and it was a successful day on both ends.
Rhett did some boring stuff with some people in the senate building, while I played with a genius 6 and 9 year old all day.
These kids are unlike any other. Let me tell you! They are so incredibly smart. Probably because they are not allowed to watch tv, not even cartoon movies! All they do is read books and ask A LOT of questions. Not to mention they both have incredible memories.
So in spending the afternoon with them yesterday I decided that I want to keep a record of the things they say, because they are freaking hilarious.
Patrick is 6 and 3/4 and is missing his front 4 teeth, which makes him talk little funny. Even more cute when he says things that blow your mind.
Gavin is 9. His brain freaks me out.
Here are some highlights from yesterday:
Event 1
Gavin wanted to show me his water powered car. (One thing you have to know is that this is the greenest family I have ever met)
He tells me that how it works is the water is separated into it's two key elements, oxygen and hydrogen, and then those gases are used to fuel the engine. (but of course!)
After Gavin explained this for a bit, Patrick says, "it's basically electrolysis"
I tried not to pee my pants.
Event 2
I was cooking the boys pasta for dinner. I was trying to find a pot that was the right size. They have these really heavy pots out on a shelf against the wall. I didn't really want to use them because they weren't the right size. I found a perfect pot in one of the cabinets, but Patrick tells me that we don't use those pots, because they are not good for the environment. So I had to use a heavy one from the shelf...
I put the pot on the stove and then started adding water to it. Their sink is less than 2 steps away so I left the water running as I filled the pot cup by cup. Patrick comes in and kindly says "Oh we don't waste water in this house"
Event 3
We were in Patrick's room looking at books about dinosaurs and lizards. He found a picture of a trilobite, and I had told them that I looked for trilobite fossils the day before. I told him that one species had 13 spines and the other had 9. He counted the spines on the one in his book and said oh this species must be related to the ones you found!
He then grabbed a toy dinosaur and showed me how to take it apart. After he took the head off, he says "now he's just pathetic!" as he dissembles it more and more he tells me that he's "practically useless at this point"
HE'S 6! It's seriously so weird.
Those were my favorite stories from yesterday. I can't wait for what's in store :)
