Sublime

So this week in art history we were discussing Romanticism. We talked about how the art of this period was often sublime. So my teacher is super weird and she is always using large words that I am pretty sure she makes up. She reminds me of Martha Stewart in that way. Instead of describing something with one adjective it takes her 5 to 7. Well turns out I didn't really know what sublime meant but she used it an awful lot to describe romantic art. She said it means pleasurable fear....what? I didn't know there was such a thing. The TA in lab tried to tell us that it means like when you see a car crash you love it but you're glad it's not you. I thought that was a stupid explanation but I guess it sorta makes sense. She said though that it does apply more to nature and storms which is true. I mean I love watching hurricanes and earthquakes on movies and stuff but I am glad I don't actually have to live them. So those are my thoughts on sublime. Here is what I think best captures sublime according to my teacher's definition:

and this is what my teacher thinks is sublime:

Either she's not good at explaining or she sucks at adjectives....

Crust

So this whole weekend was just kinda lame. Friday I went to the library, Saturday morning I woke up early to go to the library to study for my test, decided against taking my test and then came home and felt like being lazy all day. I got an ounce of studying in, and I still feel so unprepared for my test....weekend wasted? Well no, but it kinda feels like it. Except for yesterday night was amazing.

My bestest crust came over and we went and got cookies and cream milk and cookies and cream ice cream from the creamery....such an awful place, but I forgive it because it has my yummy milk. So we mixed the two together and it was the best idea I ever had. SO DERICIOUS!

We then watched Little Rascals because Karen has never seen it. Can you believe that? Yeah me neither.
They are so freaking cute I just want to eat them! My heart definitely belongs to Porky.

We then attempted to see Step Up 3 but it was all sold out. So we went for a canyon drive.

Our drive up the canyon was emotional, that's just the way me and Karen tend to be, but I love that about us. One thing we talked about was this feeling of emptiness that we felt was consuming our lives. Like we need something to fill it, we can't be content with the empty feeling. And I just think that's stupid. Why do I constantly have to be looking for something to fill this missing part of me? And why can't it be filled? Well I propose that it's because I have been trying to fill it with the wrong things.

I have been trying to fill it by getting better grades, setting goals, dating....especially dating...and not that any of these things are bad, it's just that I am focusing wayyy to much on myself and not enough on Christ. My emptiness is best filled with him. I can fill myself with scripture study and prayer and temple trips...so obvious! I don't know why I didn't figure it out before.

It doesn't even matter what caused me to feel this emptiness or why I even let part of me be taken away. The important thing is that it can be filled. Filled with Christ and that thought is oh so good.

PEACE

So I just found this poem that I wrote at the end of winter semester. I wanted to put it here so it is safe.

Peace.
Do we even know what that means?
Is it what you feel inside,
or do you see it around you?
Is it something you can hold,
or give away?
Is it what you find when you've found everything you're looking for,
or is it losing everything but knowing it will all be OK?
Is it what you feel in the arms of your mother,
or what you hear in her voice when you're apart?
Is it the sunshine and rainbow after a storm,
or is it knowing you made it through?
Is it in care packages or desperately needed food,
or is it in the hands that reach out?
Is it after the battle is done with a winner to rule,
or is it letting differences stand?
Is it a message printed on our hearts,
or just a thought in our minds?
Is it a symbol that means something found on clothes and jewelry,
or is it just a fashion statement?
Is it something we really believe in,
or is it just a nice idea?
Is it what we find in our beliefs,
or is it what we feel when we're on our knees?
Is it in what we've been given,
or is it why we were bought?
Is it in the world,
or is it poured out from Heaven?
It is a never-ending offer of deliverance.
It is joy, HOPE and faith.
It is being in the arms of the Savior, for it is his.
He is peace.

New Blog!

So me and Brynn decided that we needed to get a blog to track all the happenings here in Sparks 2. We will be doing weekly posts, so you will always have something to look forward to. We're starting today with We're Hot Wednesday. This gives our mothers the opportunity to see what we wear and everyone else can just be jealous of our innate ability to look good. Wonderful World

So I absolutely love James Morrison. He honestly sings my life. I'm currently listening to his album, "Songs for you, Truths for me." Well they are truths for me too. One of my favorites is "Wonderful World". I posted the lyrics below. But honestly if you're looking for some seriously good music with excellent lyrics, he's your man.

"Wonderful World"

I've been down so low
People look at me and they know
They can tell something is wrong
Like I don't belong

Staring through a window
Standing outside, they're just too happy to care tonight
I want to be like them
But I'll mess it up again

I tripped on my way in
And got kicked outside, everybody saw...

And I know that it's a wonderful world
But I can't feel it right now
Well I thought that I was doing well
But I just want to cry now
Well I know that it's a wonderful world
From the sky down to the sea
But I can only see it when you're here, here with me

Sometimes I feel so full of love
It just comes spilling out
It's uncomfortable to see
I give it away so easily
But if I had someone I would do anything
I'd never, never, ever let you feel alone
I won't I won't leave you, on your own

But who am I to dream?
Dreams are for fools, they let you down...

And I know that it's a wonderful world
But I can't feel it right now
Well I thought that I was doing well
But I just want to cry now
Well I know that it's a wonderful world
From the sky down to the sea
But I can only see it when you're here, here with me

And I wish that I could make it better
I'd give anything for you to call me, or maybe just a little letter
Oh, we could start again

And I know that it's a wonderful world
But I can't feel it right now
Well I thought that I was doing well
But I just want to cry now
Well I know that it's a wonderful world
From the sky down to the sea
But I can only see it when you're here, here with me

And I know that it's a wonderful world
I can't feel it right now
I got all the right clothes to wear
I just want to cry now
Well I know that it's a wonderful world
From the sky down to the sea
But I can only see it when you're here, here with me

And I know that it's a wonderful world
When you're with me

to my baby butt

Dear butt,

I miss you a lot today. It's just one of those days where I admit I am a little insane and probably over dramatic....which just makes me wish more that you were here. I wish I could talk to you. I miss waiting for you to come home from work. I miss cooking pathetic meals with you. I miss you listening to my every problem and always letting me know that it would be alright. I miss your help, with calc, or boys and just life in general.

This weekend I bought boots just like yours from Walmart. I don't even need them but I just bought them in your honor. I had to hide them though because they were making me too sad. How pathetic is that?

Brittany came over for dinner tonight and we were chatting about you. I told her how proud you make me and how strong and amazing you are. I told her I wish I could be more like you. I really do. But talking to her just made me realize how much I miss you.

I miss you so much. And I am not telling you this to make you cry or feel upset. I just want to make sure you know how much I love you. More than you will ever ever know. I think of you always and I cannot wait for the day when we can finally be reunited.

You are the best butt a girl could have. I mean that with all my heart and soul ;)

All of my love,
mar

ripped

No the title of this is not referring to my abdomen. It is referring to the the current state of my jeans. So today I ripped my favorite jeans from Zumiez while in the math lab. That is officially the second pair of jeans I have ripped in that awful place. It's especially annoying because the reason they ripped was because I was going to sign up to get help on number 2. Well I still don't know the answer to number 2 and now to top it off my jeans are ripped. Further proof that calculus is ruining my life! On the bright side I am going to go get Cafe Rio in a bit with Brynn :) and it's the weekend. And although I am doing hw I don't have class. Oh and cleaning checks are tomorrow. Probably most exciting thing ever since this place is disgusting. That's all.
